About the Event

🌟 Attention Junior Space Engineers in 4th-10th grades!

Are you ready to embark on an out-of-this-world adventure? Join us for SpaceQuest: Astrolounge Engineering Challenge on Saturday, April 27th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. CT.

SpaceQuest is not your average summer camp program – it's an immersive experience designed for students in 4th to 10th grades who are eager to explore the realms of space engineering. In this interactive mission, you'll be tasked with designing and building an "Astrolounge" for astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

🚀 Mission Overview:

Your mission is to craft an Astrolounge that ensures optimal heating and cooling for astronauts, utilizing your understanding of heat convection, conduction, and radiation in the unique environment of space. But here's the twist – you'll be using special experimental kits that allow you to conduct real-time experiments both on Earth and remotely on the ISS via an internet connection!

🔬 Experimentation and Understanding - Introduction to Space Thermal Dynamics:

  • Learn from Danny as he dives into the principles of heat transfer in space and the challenges faced in the ISS environment.
  • Get hands-on with experimental kits, setting up and conducting experiments related to heating and cooling.
  • Connect to the ISS and conduct similar experiments in microgravity, observing differences and comparing results with Earth-based experiments.
  • Present your designs and experimental findings, discussing how your solutions tackle the unique challenges of space.

Conclusion:

SpaceQuest isn't just about learning – it's about experiencing science and engineering firsthand. By conducting experiments both on Earth and aboard the ISS, you'll deepen your understanding of space habitats and cultivate a practical approach to scientific exploration.

🌌 VR Station (Exhibition)

Don't miss our VR station, where you can immerse yourself in a virtual reality experience of the ISS! Float in microgravity and explore the wonders of space firsthand through our VR headsets.

  • Date: Saturday, 4/27/24
  • Time: 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. CT (in-person only)
  • Location: Harper College - 1200 West Algonquin Rd. Palatine, IL 60067 (Room A238 in Building A) | https://www.harpercollege.edu/visit/index.php for Interactive Maps
